Race Across America "

After the positive response to my last book recommendation ("Biker Bible"), here's a tip for cyclists and other literature for the cold last weekend before the season starts again.

In his book "Race Across America," writes Dr. Michael Nehls, a physician and molecular geneticist, for about his preparation and successful participation in the race of America's Pacific coast, Atlantic coast.

goal is the 4800 km and 30,000 meters at the fastest back down.

There are no stages, but only about 57 checkpoints. To finish the race successfully, however, a Time limit can be met. For individual time trial this limit is 12 days and 5 hours, including all breaks and traffic-related stops.

Participants can even choose when and where he wants to insert naps, must decide between the value of additional travel time and the ability to regenerate through sleep.

order concerning personal enthusiasm is not too much to come in for criticism, I give here reflects the book review of Matthew Tewordt which coincides with my opinion but in all aspects. (To be source, subject to no Guttenberg'schen plagiarism allegations.)

"Dr. Michael Nehls and photographer Uwe Geissler is an exceptionally good and interesting report on the Race across America and succeeded in the endurance sports in general. Meticulously have Nehls and his eight-person team is preparing for several years on this most challenging time trial race on the bike. They have quite early with their smart strategy during the race to incorporate a lot of peace, set the path to a great success. Continuous through the entire race seems to me the interesting approach of not having to make do with only 1-2 hours of sleep a night, but to provide more up to 6 hours, demonstrating again the success. Nehls is finally seventh, and can therefore be rightly proud of his achievement. All details have been meticulously involved in the preparation of: the ergometer exercise in a sauna (to prepare for the hot days in Arizona and New Mexico), extremely detailed diet and exercise planning, time and again the extensive consideration of scientific principles, medicine and training theory, an anti-doping approach to to the solution of the problem with becoming weak neck muscles ("Schermer's Neck") through a "prism glasses," ... Much has been thought to
. At the beginning of the race makes the logistics but Nehls team a spanner in the works. This small flaw in the preparation shows that such an entity can not plan everything perfectly. But then pays the full regeneration strategy, including the fact that Nehls enjoy the ride even could - in contrast to the other competitors. A great approach!

The book is a fantastic mixture of a pretty interesting adventure and a very full description, detailed and well-argued scientific report on the project. Each
endurance athletes can learn a lot this! And not least, the beautiful photos are mentioned, give the report had a special touch "

. Note: The accompanying Uwe Geissler (photographer) is the editor of Road Bike magazine TOUR.

The book can be recommended only not just extreme sports, it's interesting in many respects for all "normal" cyclist and sports maniacs.
The reader is impressive, what benefits are possible if optimal preparation, the corresponding endurance, discipline, get confidence in themselves and the absolute will to achieve these goals together. Much of it
could be transferred to `s daily life.

way, there is also the DVD movie to the book,
title: "You must not win, to win."

Like the book of the film motivated to tackle big tasks for the right reasons and with a touch of humor this to cope with.

Enjoy reading the book, or / and watching the film.
